For many years, the standard of care in
dentistry involved visual examination enhanced by film, or more recently digital, x-rays. Dr. Al A.
Fallah is changing that for patients in the
Carlsbad area, with innovative technologies for
expert diagnosis.
Cone beam CT technology
Conventional x-rays essentially project a three-dimensional image onto a flat, two-dimensional plane. They help the dentist detect problems, but leave him to guess at exactly where in the mass of tooth and bone structure the issue lies.
To solve this dilemma and bring many other benefits to patients, Dr. Fallah has invested in the Planmeca ProMax 3D Mid cone beam CT digital imaging system. It provides incredibly clear, high-resolution images for expert diagnosis.
Uses for cone beam CT imaging
Some patients have a very sensitive gag reflex. Even the introduction of a small sensor necessary for conventional digital x-rays can be unpleasant. With the cone beam CT device, Dr. Fallah obtains images extra-orally – from
outside the mouth.
Three-dimensional imaging is also ideal for:
- Discovery of hidden infections in jawbone or teeth.
- Precise planning and placement of zirconia dental implants.
- Accurate mapping of the airway to address obstructive sleep apnea with oral appliance therapy.
- Finding causes of TMJ disorders, allowing for more effective treatment.
Patient benefits
This system has the
lowest radiation exposure of any comparable technology. The process is quick and painless. Simply relax your head comfortably in the chin rest, while the machine takes panoramic images. The accuracy of those pictures is
incredibly precise and detailed. You see them on a monitor, while Dr. Fallah explains his findings and treatment options. The image files are securely stored and easily shared with your other healthcare providers or insurance company, if necessary.

Hi, my name is Dr. Fallah and my associate Dr. Juca and I practice holistic dentistry in Carlsbad, California. And I want to talk about a dear patient for whom we just took care of a procedure. This patient of mine had a toothache years ago on a front tooth where she had veneers done somewhere else, and we recently did a 3D CBCT on her. And we found out that the tooth that had a toothache, which had been asymptomatic for four years, had a huge abscess at the root end. After going through all the options, she removed the tooth, and the abscess was huge. We cleaned it well with ozone, platelet-rich fibrin, and sticky bone, a great bone graft technique. And we were able to place a zirconia implant and restore her to function and health.

Hi, my name is Dr. Fallah and my associate Dr. Juca and I practice holistic dentistry in Carlsbad, California. And in this video, I want to discuss the importance of hidden infections on a patient's overall health. So many times when we do our low-dose cone beam evaluation, we find these hidden infections, sometimes in the upper molars communicating with the sinus, and sometimes in other parts of the body. And these infections typically have no pain and are visible on the cone beam. We can also do APCRDNA testing to see what microbes are brewing there. And oftentimes they drain into the lymphatic system, into the blood, and they can go into the heart, brain, and other tissues and can cause a lot of havoc and damage.
Dr. Fallah Explains the Benefits of Cone Beam CT Scans for Advanced Imaging
Transcript
Hi, my name is Dr. Fallah, and I’m a holistic dentist in Carlsbad, California. In this episode, I’m gonna be talking about the benefits of the Cone Beam CT Scan. We use a machine called Planmeca, and it has the lowest exposure of any other Cone Beam machines, literally, that is in the market. We are able to see the presence of hidden infections, bone loss, and any anomalies within the temporomandibular joint. We can even see the cervical spine. We can map the upper airway and the temporomandibular joint - its health and status. And of course, the discovery and diagnosis of hidden infections are really important parts of all of that, in terms of helping our patients with their health.
Unlocking Health: The Power of Low-Dose Conebeam Scans
Transcript
Hi, my name is Dr. Fallah. I'm a holistic dentist in Carlsbad, California. My associate, Dr. Juca, and I practice holistic dentistry. And in this video, I want to talk about why a low-dose cone beam scan can be so important in terms of your overall health. So many times we see infections clear as day with a 3D scan in areas that the conventional X-rays will miss every single time. For example, if you have a molar that is in the upper back, upper back jaw, and you have all this cheekbone and all of the structures that would actually superimpose in a 2D x-ray, and so you will miss an infection at the root end that is percolating into the sinus just about every single time, and you will catch it the first single time with the cone beam scan. Incredible!
