Relaxing IV sedation dentistry: The comfort of all patients is our priority
Dental care is nothing to fear at the office of Dr. Al A. Fallah in Carlsbad, California. Dr. Fallah has invested in an array of training on the latest techniques and technologies to ensure a gentle, painless, comfortable, and otherwise stress-free dental experience. However, we appreciate that fears or anxieties may linger. Dental apprehension is common and may originate from negative experiences at other offices in childhood. For these and other reasons, our dentist has also invested in the capabilities necessary to offer a spectrum of sedation services. Nervous and intensely fearful patients alike can benefit from intravenous (IV) and other forms of sedation dentistry.
Comfortable care for all
Other dentists’ offices near us and far away may only be equipped and qualified to offer minimal sedation with “laughing gas” or the administration of nitrous oxide through a nasal mask. While the effects of this sedative wear off quickly, they may not be sufficient to calm very anxious individuals properly. Additionally, deeper levels of sedation may be more appropriate for patients undergoing many or complex procedures or who have extremely sensitive teeth, an active gag reflex, a tendency to fidget, and difficulties getting numb. Moderate and deep sedation induces relaxation while also allowing us to complete procedures more quickly. This is a particularly attractive benefit for those who are undergoing several treatments. We can combine treatments into one appointment, which is convenient and minimizes the need to take extra time from work.
While sometimes referred to as “sleep dentistry,” IV sedation generally just makes people very relaxed. You stay awake throughout treatment but do not have a care in the world. Patients also remain in control and can respond to our dental professionals. Since this type of sedation does cause lingering drowsiness, you must make arrangements in advance of your appointment for someone to drive you to and from our office. It is unsafe to drive or operate machinery afterward as the effects of the sedative medication administered during this treatment do not wear off immediately.
With proper administration and monitoring controls at every step in the process, IV sedation at our office is:
- Safe
- Effective
- Fast
- Easily adjustable (dosing)
- Tension-relieving
- Healing
- Avoids lingering “triggers” (patients recall little to nothing about treatment afterward)
It’s critical to follow any pre- and post-treatment instructions; for example, we can advise on when to fast or refrain from food before your appointment. And again, you must confirm with us that you have arranged reliable transportation. Call (760) 730-1600 with questions or to schedule a visit with the team at Al A. Fallah, DDS, MICCMO, AIAOMT. Our office in Carlsbad, CA, welcomes your concerns! We partner with patients to address and resolve any fears they may have about visiting the dentist. So they can then maintain the dental care that is so necessary for an attractive smile, a healthy body, and one’s overall well-being.
