Some people might question that the smoke we see coming off the amalgam filling might not actually be mercury the fact that it is mercury can easily be demonstrated with a Gerome mercury analyzer. The tooth is first cooled, and then analyzed with the mercury sample. The Gerome shows that there are no ignitions coming off the cool dental amalgam. Then we stimulate the surface, explore it a bit scaring gently and then the Gerome takes another sample – California has levels for mercury hazardous waste - which is 100. This filing is well over that level just seconds form stimulation. Thus demonstrating without doubt that amalgams leak mercury any time they are stimulated.
