Dr. Fallah and Fresh Start offer hope for San Marcos twins
According to Dr. Fallah, they are two of the worst cases he’s ever seen. “I’ve seen this condition before,” he told the North County Times, “just not [this bad] in one person.” The patients he is referring to are 16-year old twins Stephanie and Ramses from San Marcos, California.
Both suffer from a hereditary condition called amelogenesis imperfecta, which impedes the production of hard tooth enamel.
Dr. Fallah is helping them to deal with the disease as part of his work with Fresh Start – a non-profit organization based in Carlsbad that provides reconstructive surgery for people all over the world.
Amelogenesis imperfecta prevents teeth from forming a hard outer layer, leaving them susceptible to misalignment, discoloration and decay. Stephanie and Ramses - two otherwise upbeat and smiling teenagers – exhibit a severe case of the disease, which already causes them difficulty chewing and sometimes even breathing.
Without the application of porcelain crowns, Stephanie and Ramses will likely even lose their teeth. Without insurance, their family is unable to pay for the procedure.
But thanks to the volunteer orthodontic and reconstruction work being provided by Dr. Fallah and the fundraising efforts of Fresh Start, preliminary work on the twins’ treatment has already begun.
Dr. Fallah has already said that he can improve Stephani's teeth through porcelain restorations – and Fresh Start is making ongoing efforts to raise funds that may help pay for the lab costs of the procedure.
Dr. Fallah is proud to host Fresh Start's Dental Clinic in his office, and is one of the Dentists donating his time and skills for the children of Fresh Start.
