One-Visit Porcelain Crowns -- The Process

Exam and Preparation

Dr. Fallah examines your teeth and determines the appropriate treatment for you. CEREC can be used for everything from a simple filling to a full crown, depending upon how much healthy tooth structure remains. Next, Dr. Fallah prepares your tooth for its restoration, removing decayed and weakened tooth tissue.

Optical Impression

Next comes the Optical Impression of the tooth that needs to be restored. Rather than filling a tray with impression putty and requiring you to bite into and hold it, Dr. Fallah simply coats the target tooth with a reflective coating. The CEREC state-of-the-art digital 3D camera is then used to create a virtual copy of the coated tooth on the computer screen. This entire Optical Impression process takes only a few minutes.

Restoration Creation

Next, the CEREC machine is used to create the high-quality porcelain restoration or crown for your tooth. The CEREC 3D software converts the digital picture into a 3-dimensional virtual model. The ceramic restoration is designed using state-of-the-art CAD software that allows Dr. Fallah to customize every detail to fit your specific clinical needs with perfect shape and color. With design completed, Dr. Fallah sends restoration design data electronically to a separate milling machine in his office. A ceramic block that precisely matches your tooth shade is placed in the milling machine.

Within a time span of about 10 - 20 minutes, your customized, all-ceramic, tooth-colored restoration is completed and ready to bond into place. Finally, Dr. Fallah checks the position of the restoration in your mouth, ensuring proper fit and bite. The finished restoration is then polished and finally bonded to the prepared tooth.

Your tooth is restored on the spot, with no "temporary" crown or return trip to the office required.
